Notes: This four-session (8-hour total) introductory course to the process and craft of writing memoir, offered by Diversity Richmond, is designed for LGBTQ+ people who want to write stories of their lives but don’t know where to start. This is an interactive online class held the first Tuesday of the month, January through April. Students are encouraged to ask questions, engage in class discussions, and, of course, write. The goals of this course are to: • Understand the definition and purpose of memoir as a writing genre • Explore how to craft your life’s stories by studying how memoir masters employ craft elements to engage their readers • Apply craft to your own writing with writing exercises and assignments • Focus your memoir so it has meaning for your readers.
